One.

I love the blog http://fosterhood.tumblr.com/

She mentioned that her intent was to only foster one child (she has had 2 very short placements and has one long term one currently that she calls "jacket" on her blog.  She has had her for quite a while and, as foster care does, things are getting a little hairy.)

Anyway, she mentioned that she would love to see a generation of "normal" people who decide to take on one foster child instead of a few people taking on LOTS of kids.

I find this very interesting and it got me thinking.

So many people say to me "I could never do it, I couldn't give them back, I couldn't stand the pain."

What if we "normal" people all stepped out and decided that one time in our life we would risk getting hurt to benefit someone else?

What if ONE TIME we did something that was solely for the benefit of someone else - something that was written in stone that would hurt us, but make a world of difference to someone else?

Just Once.

Just Once.

I am glad Jesus decided to do it just once.  What a difference it made for all of us.

Beautiful and powerful. It's the least we can do.

Great post. I read her too, I think I found her through you. I don't know if I'll do this again. I just hope it all works out for the boys in the end....

Very powerful. I totally agree, but unfortunately, I can't even get most of my friends to donate an hour to something. So many people waste their lives doing nothing but living for their selves.

Reminds me of the song, "Line Between the Two" by Mark Harris:

"A beginning and an ending, dates upon a stone—
But the moment in the middle is how we will be known
Because what defines us can be found within a line—
Finding reason for our time....

...When our life is done, did we live and love the way we wanted to?
Cause everyday that we leave behind goes on to tell the truth—
Of how we lived in the line between the two..."

I was thinking about this too recently. As I type this from a dark hospital room (day 5)I thought that even though our son is sick I would go back and do it all again in a heartbeat. My husband and I said we wouldnt trade him for 10 "healthy" kids. I thought about my other children(4 others) and how if anything happened to him we would all hurt and it would be unimaginable pain. I thought about how I never want to hurt my kids, but then I thought about God giving us our son and asking us to take that step of faith and say Yes. All the hurt in the world wont make me regret all the blessings and love my son has given me since we first laid eyes on him and knew we were to be his mama and daddy.

I think you have a great idea. We did foster care too and we got hurt but ya know what, we are fine and maybe just maybe some seed was planted in those kids as well as our other children.

Be blessed

What a rock-your-world thought! I love it! And I love the correlation to what Jesus Christ did for us just once. Are we better than He that we can live a life without pain when He suffered so for us?

I love your posts. They are very encouraging and reassuring for me. I am just beginning the journey to become a foster to adopt home. You are a blessing!
