Hope.

I hope I get used to parenting/tolerating this "autistic like behavior" - I am not the most patient person and I really don't want to have to move them to yet another foster home :/

My husband and I have an inside joke about that kind of stuff. "Turn a blind eye" is tuning out any behavior that isn't dangerous or intentional when a child is having stimulation issues or impulse control problems.

When someone else notices (before we have) that our 4 yr old is repetitively tapping while making nasal baby sounds, we laugh and say, Turn a blind eye!

Not every battle needs fighting, and it is completely OK to let a behavior go once or twice if you don't have the patience for re-teaching at that moment.

It gets better!

I don't know which autism like behavior you are talking about. I don't know if you have an iPod or better yet an iPad,but there are some very good apps that help an autistic child to stay centered and keeps them focused. Many of them are free. Having an iPod or iPad has taken the totally autistic kid in our family to the point that we can take him places and do things with him that we would not have done without one or the other.

also...remember not to take it personally. If it truly is on the autism spectrum they are not doing it to intentionally drive you insane ;)
