Training Hours.

Curious...

What websites do you all use to get your foster care training hours?

What else do you use to get training hours?

You can do training hours online???

I tend to use Texas A&M and Foster Parent College for a lot of my online hours.

I also recently took a great course on Parent/Child Visits:

Here, we can only do 25% of our hours online. All others have to be in a classroom setting, however most of the hours are covered in the annual required refreshers.

Oh! And my agency even allows me to use the quarterly WIC training as well!

My agency doesn't allow online training. They've assured me they are working toward allowing it. But for now, the only two classes we can take online is one about transportation (aka car seat training) and psychotropic meds.

Yet another reason why I'm getting fed up with my agency!

Licensed through DHS in Mama Foster's state. Can use online courses and DHS will provide a list of sites. Can use Early On visits, PT or OT or Speech therapy sessions. DHS has videos that can be checked out and used.

Our agency requires 24 hours of training a year. The offer classes through out the year (usually monthly) that are 3 hours each. There are also day traingings that I could attend. I used to use the ilinc through Buffalo NY but it's been a while.

We let our license lapse two years ago, after we adopted. At that time, our state still required all training hours to be in person. I don't know whether that has since changed. We could attend a variety of classes held during the year or go to foster parent "fairs" that had classes numerous classes offered all day.

We can count two online hours of the twelve hours of yearly training from FosterClub.org.

You might check with your agency about books also. If we read books that are directly related to fostering and type up a small review then they give us a certain number of hours depending on how long the book was.

You might also check and see if your agency would approve the Karyn Purvis videos that they have posted at Empoweredtoconnect.com

We did Growing Kids God's Way through out church. It was an awesome video series!

I haven't done any online training yet, although my agency occasionally sends me links to ones I could use. There's a limit to the number of hours I'm allowed to get online.

The agency also offers training year round -- 3 hours at a time, usually a session every month -- for which they provide childcare, so that's where I get most of mine.

We get all of our training through Foster Parent Association monthly meetings and an annual conference where they put us up in a hotel and offer two days of training. I have been told that we can also use IEP meetings, therapy sessions that we participate in (PCIT), limited online classes (not sure how many) and recently they offered us correspondence courses on paper.

For international adoption, not foster care...but thought I'd throw it out there:
